Today, the strategic management of change in organisations is no longer a fashionable neologism of management gurus but a reality and is key to separating good organisations from bad ones. Globalisation, technological development, cost reduction, pressures and threats from both the external and internal environments are just some of the factors faced by organisations which determine change processes as the basic component of the new internal dynamics. The article addresses two possible approaches to managing change in a company; among others, the famous bestseller Competing for the Future by Hamel and Prahalad shows that it does not suffice to be smaller, cleaned of redundant costs and that it is not even enough to be better – the answer lies in being different!
