Within the Business Club Socius's activities, former leading managers spoke freely about their experiences

Through experiences of three businessmen, namely Zoran Janković, former CEO of Mercator and the present mayor of Ljubljana, Bruno Korelič, former CEO of Luka Koper, and Branko Tomažič, former CEO of HIT, the participants learnt about the traps and ascents of questions connected with the development of big business systems on top of which these three men once were.

The speakers agreed on the connection between business and democracy, saying that without democracy, there is no successful work, however, democracy having its limit. At that, they stressed the social capital of each society and the meaning of the leader as the first among his equals. Within the topic of advantages and disadvantages of the state ownership, Mr. Korelič expressed the advantage of private ownership, which puts forward professionalism. Mr. Janković stressed that a company should be lead according to one's conscience. As one of his experiences, Mr.Tomažič mentioned setting legal limitations which can also lead to obstructing the company’s development. Regarding the management of state companies, the guests agreed with the statement of the host, Mr. Leonard F. Peklar, the director of the managing committee of the company Socius, that for success, Slovenia needs its best people, regardless of their political orientation and beliefs. Therefore, the key question is the question of professionalism and placing people on the right positions.

»The intention of this meeting of the Business Club Socius was to focus on success and the strategic contribution to the economy on one side and the policy of exclusion on the other side. The speakers answered numerous questions about success factors, business plans and the vision of the future, as well as their personal feelings from the times when they were leaving their positions (willingly or unwillingly) to their successors. The questions that remained unanswered, will get a chance to be discussed in future Business Club meetings by Slovene and foreign professionals”, said Žiga Vavpotič, the director of Business Club Socius.

The discussion finished by stressing the importance of staff, values and business culture, and in a relaxed atmosphere the speakers and other participants of the round table continued their discussion.
